Amazon RxPass vs. MyFloridaRx: Cheapest Way to Fill Generic Prescriptions

The same generic prescription can cost very different amounts from one pharmacy to the next. This FAQ compares two ways to pay less: Amazon Pharmacy's flat $5-a-month RxPass subscription and Florida's free MyFloridaRx price-comparison tool. It is written for Florida but most of it applies nationwide.

What is Amazon RxPass?

RxPass is an Amazon Prime member benefit. For $5 per month total, you get every prescribed medication on the RxPass list (more than 50 common generics) filled as often as you need, with free delivery. It is not insurance, and you can't pay the fee with an HSA or FSA.

What is MyFloridaRx?

MyFloridaRx, at prescription.healthfinder.fl.gov, is run by the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration. Search a drug and your county to compare pharmacies' cash prices for a 30-day supply of the 400 most dispensed drugs in Florida. Prices update monthly and aren't guaranteed, so call to confirm.

Who can use RxPass?

You need Prime. Medicare members can sign up, but people on Medicaid or CHIP, or dually enrolled in Medicare and Medicaid, can't right now. RxPass doesn't ship to every state, so check Amazon's RxPass page for yours.

Which saves more?

If you already have Prime and take two or more generics on the RxPass list, one $5 fee usually wins. If you take one cheap generic, don't have Prime, are on Medicaid, or your drug isn't on the list, use MyFloridaRx to find the lowest cash price in your county and compare it with your copay or a discount card.

Medicare, or outside Florida?

MyFloridaRx only lists Florida pharmacies, but anyone can use it to compare retail prices. Medicare members should also compare their Part D copay. Outside Florida, check local pharmacies' cash prices and Amazon Pharmacy's listed price.

How do I check my exact price?

Look up your drug, strength, and county on MyFloridaRx, then call the cheapest pharmacy. For RxPass, confirm your exact medication and strength is on the list and that it ships to your state. Purse Pal's Prescriptions tool lines up both in your Free First Swipe report.
